Chick Lit

I first heard of Sophie Kinsella at an interview I went for early last year. The interviewer’s office was full of books and I definitely had to take a good look around, she noticed this and asked if I liked to read, then asked if I had heard of Sophie Kinsella, I said no. I got home and decided to google her up, then I saw she wrote Confessions of a Shopaholic which is the film adaptation of two of her novels – The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Abroad. Of course, like every other normal person, I loved the movie. I downloaded the book and a few others of hers. I didn’t get the job tho, well, I didn’t like the job so I didn’t go for it.

Late last year, I bought a copy of The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic and Twenties Girl. Some time last week, I followed Joke to the mall to get a mouse, and we found ourselves in a bookstore and the books were on sale. Whhaaaattttttt??!!! I was going to just look around for a bit, and that was what I was doing till I started seeing books I had read. At that point, I knew I was in the right place. I walked around a bit and did some searching and got a wonderful deal, 3 books for 2k. Err, not so wonderful, but heyy, I finally found a paperback copy of The Undomestic Goddess.

Joke is The Undomestic Goddess personified!!

Sophie Kinsella is the queen of chick lit, I’m serious, she is. The undomestic goddess is about a lawyer, Samantha Sweeting, making a huge career mistake that cost her her job. She mistakenly (well, not exactly) lands a job as a housekeeper in the countryside. As the title says, she’s extremely undomestic and has great difficulty keeping up, she eventually finds help and love along the way. I love how Sophie writes, she details the emotions and you can totally feel everything and picture each scenario.

and her dress made a wonderful background.

Sometimes I like to feel like I’m an undomestic goddess, I mean I can work an oven, boil rice, but then I have my limits.

And oh by the way, Sophie Kinsella is the pen name of Madeleine Sophie Wickham.
