This wonderful book is a memoir of Deanna Favre’s struggle with cancer. She shares her insecurities, fears, uplifting moments and low moments. The book also talks about her early life, finding love, being a single mom,
making difficult choices, losing loved ones and following God’s will/word.
I found the book so inspiring because almost every young lady can relate to one or more of Deanna’s struggles, and seeing her come out strong is a great source of encouragement.
Don’t bet against me consists of 14 chapters with the foreword and afterword written by her husband (Brett) and her children (Breleigh and Brittany) respectively. Most of the chapters contain side notes like 10 questions every woman should ask her doctor after a breast cancer diagnosis, 5 ways to remember when it’s time for BSE (Breast Self Exam),10 things every woman should know about football (American football actually), and others. There’s also a basic breast cancer glossary included and some Bible passages to read when in distress.
What makes this book special to me is the remarkable and positive attitude of this woman. She’s not scared to be weak because she knows her strength comes from God.
“Deanna’s story is a living testament that with faith, hope, and love, ordinary people can overcome even the most extraordinary circumstances.”
Deanna Favre is the wife of former Green Bay Parkers quarterback Brett Favre.
