Hi! I talked about seeing the film adaptation of Me Before You some months back (you can read my thoughts on it here) and I totally loved it. It was on the top of chick lit books I always wanted to read and I didn’t like that I saw the movie before reading it because as we learnt from the Harry Potter series; the movies are never like the books.
Me Before You focuses on the life of 26 year old Louisa Clark who works as a caregiver for Will Traynor, a 31 year old quadriplegic who became confined to a wheelchair after being hit by a motorbike. When I started I thought it was going to be a basic love story, but Me Before You is more than that, it’s the story of a beautiful friendship that blossomed into love.
The book explores various themes, with the right to die being the major theme. This was the book that ignited my interest in euthanasia and assisted suicide.
There were a few things that didn’t make it to the movie. In the book Will had a sister, but she wasn’t in the movie and I think that’s okay since she wasn’t a principal character. Also, in the book, Stephen, Will’s father was unfaithful.
P.S. I don’t review books, I just recommend the books I enjoyed reading. I’m quite certain there’s a difference between reviewing and recommending lol. You can download the pdf version of Me Before You below. Have a lovely week.
